The MaxiScan code reader supports all OBD2 protocols, including the newly released Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol. Though it is small, it is able to retrieve same information as large expensive scanners. This code reader reviews the emission readiness status of OBD monitors and determines the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status as well as turns off check engine light. My ten-year-old car has a minor cooling system problem which I found with the Autel MaxiScan MS300.
The sofware disc may not work on newer computers, but the manual contains what you need to know. I am really delighted with the MS300!!!

My husband was able to check for codes within 5 minutes of opening the package. What I really like about this reader is it shows the readiness flags. You can also clear codes if needed. Works great and had no problems with it. showed us one not-ready and no codes since we had cleared them with a friend's tool before. Don't buy one at an Autoparts store. Too expensive!
